CATHERINE MYLREAQUAYLE & JOHN CHRISTIAN CRELLIN
1814 - Marriage Contract (Braddan & Malew)
Articles of Marriage made by and between John Frissel Crellin esquire Deemster and Charlotte his wife on behalf of their son Lieut John Christian Crellin of the one part and Robert Quayle esquire on behalf of his daughter Catherine Mylrea Quayle of the other part as follows:
First it is agreed that the said John C. Crellin and Catherine M. Quayle shall enter into the holy estate of matrimony together within one month from this date
Secondly in consideration of the said intended marriage, the said John F. Crellin and Charlotte his wife do hereby give, grant, settle and estate onto and upon their said son John C. Crellin a clear annuity or yearly sum of one hundred pounds British during the lives of the said John F. Crellin and Charlotte his wife and the life of the longer liver of them to be paid half yearly, and the said John F. Crellin and Charlotte his wife do also hereby give, grant, settle and estate unto and upon the said John C. Crellin the sum of four thousand pounds British to be paid on the death of the longer liver of them the said John F. Crellin and Charlotte his wife in case the said John C. Crellin shall survive them and be charged and chargeable on their estate of Camlorg in the parish of Braddan, and they do hereby charge and encumber the said premises with the payment thereof accordingly (but with the proviso that in case the said John C. Crellin shall die before the said John F. Crellin and Charlotte his wife or the survivor of them then and in that case the sum of four thousand pounds is not to be payable)
Thirdly the said Robert Quayle in consideration of the said intended marriage doth hereby give, grant, settle and estate unto and upon his said daughter Catherine M. Quayle a clear annuity or yearly sum of one hundred and fifty pounds British during the lifetime of him the said Robert Quayle, to be paid half yearly and the said Robert Quayle doth also hereby give, grant, settle and estate unto and upon the said Catherine M. Quayle the sum of four thousand pounds British to be paid on the death of him the said Robert Quayle and to be charged and chargeable on his estate of Ballawoods in the parish of Malew, and he does hereby charge and encumber the said premises with the payment thereof accordingly (but with the proviso that in case the said Catherine M. Quayle shall die before the said Robert Quayle then and in that case the sum of four thousand pounds is not to be payable, and whereas the said Catherine M. Quayle is entitled to the sum of one thousand pounds by the will of her mother it is hereby agreed that the said sum shall be settled upon herself and the said John C. Crellin doth hereby settle and estate the said sum of one thousand pounds upon her the said Catherine M. Quayle to be at her own entire and absolute disposal
For the true and faithful performance of all which covenants and arguments the said parties do bind and oblige themselves under a penalty of .... thousand pounds British

Castletown the 9th February 1825
Mrs Catherine Gelling (now Jeffcott) one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Marriage Articles made oath on the Holy Evangelist that John F. Crellin esquire (who is now dead), Charlotte Crellin, Robert Quayle, John C. Crellin esquire and Catherine M. Quayle the executing parties signed and duly executed the Mariage Articles in the deponent's presence and also in the presence of Thomas Stowell esquire the other subscribing witness who is now also dead
At a Court of Common Law holden at Castle Rushen the 8th February 1825 the foregoing Marriage Articles having been attested before a High Bailiff and now openly published in this Court and no objection being offered thereto, the same is therefore ordered to be recorded. J Christian

NOTES
- Catherine Mylrea Quayle married John Christian Crellin in 1814 & the couple had 12 children in Castletown over a 20 year period
- Catherine was the only daughter of Robert Quayle & Catharine Mylrea, and b1792. Her mother was the younger daughter of Rev William Mylrea & Ellinor als Gell, baptised 1768 in Andreas. Her mother died soon after her baby's birth. This was the Deemster/Archdeacon/MHK/Attorney General; and once possessors of the Dollough estate
- John Christian Crellin died 1842 and Catherine in 1864
